While we are not developing mobile apps in Singapore, we tinker with home automation and other leading edge projects.
Node-RED is a programming tool for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways. We use Node-RED as the core of our current home automation implementations for clients and our own use.
However, like most open-sourced solutions, there are always room for improvements. User-friendliness is something that we hold very close to heart, but it can be something that is hard to come by among the DIY and open-source community.
Voice control forms a major part of every home-automation/smart home project. However, linking Amazon’s Alexa up to Node-RED had traditionally require multiple steps that can be confusing to follow, with the resulting integration being highly fragile and prone to error. Taking things into our own hands, we’ve decide to build a new Alexa-Node-RED integration that simply just works; requiring no coding and account linking nightmare on the part of the home owner.
In true open-source spirit, we have also decided to make available our project on Github, allowing anyone to download and use it. Our Alexa Node-RED project has seen received favorable reviews and recommendations from well-known figures in the home automation space, such as https://tech.scargill.net/more-alexa-marvels/
